The character of Charlotte, in the book by Susanna Rowson?s Charlotte temple, is seemingly naïve and in need of direction and resistance from the world she lives in. She suffers a tragic draw for following a misguided path broaden by Mademoiselle La ruefulness, her teacher whom Charlotte trusts.
